Question 1

When is the best time of year to tour New Zealand and Australia?

Accepted Answer

New Zealand is fantastic year-round, but the most popular months are October through April when the weather is warmest and the days are long. Australia's tropical north (Cairns, Darwin) is best from May to October during the dry season, while the southern states (Sydney, Melbourne, Tasmania) shine from October to April. We tailor itineraries to suit the season, your interests, and the regions you'd like to visit.

Question 2

How far in advance should we book a group tour?

Accepted Answer

For group travel, we recommend booking 9–12 months in advance, especially for peak season (December–February) or specialist tours that require limited-availability venues, lodges, or experiences. Smaller bespoke tours can sometimes be arranged with shorter lead times — please get in touch and we'll do our best to accommodate.

Question 3

Can we combine New Zealand and Australia in one tour?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely — many of our guests choose a dual-destination itinerary. We design seamless multi-country programmes including flights, transfers, and coordinated guides so the journey between Australia and New Zealand feels effortless.

Question 4

What is included in a Mercury Pacific tour?

Accepted Answer

Our tours typically include accommodation, ground transport, expert local guides, curated experiences, and most meals. Inclusions vary by tour style — from luxury elite tours to group itineraries and shore excursions. Each proposal lists exactly what's covered so there are no surprises.

Question 5

Do I need a visa to visit New Zealand or Australia?

Accepted Answer

Most international visitors need an electronic travel authority before arrival — an NZeTA for New Zealand and an ETA or eVisitor for Australia. Requirements depend on your nationality and length of stay. We provide guidance to all guests, but final responsibility for visas rests with each traveler.Official resources:Apply for an NZeTA — Immigration New ZealandAustralian visitor visa finder — Department of Home AffairsAustralia ETA (subclass 601)Australia eVisitor (subclass 651)

Question 6

Is there a visitor levy or tourism tax?

Accepted Answer

Yes — New Zealand charges an International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL) which is paid alongside your NZeTA. Australia includes a Passenger Movement Charge in international airfares. These fees go towards conservation and infrastructure that protect the destinations we love.About the NZ International Visitor Levy (MBIE)Australia's Passenger Movement Charge (ABF)

Question 7

How long should my passport be valid?

Accepted Answer

Both New Zealand and Australia require your passport to be valid for at least three months beyond your intended departure date. We recommend six months' validity to be safe, particularly if onward travel is planned. For the latest official travel advice, visit SafeTravel (NZ) or Smartraveller (Australia).

Question 8

What is the level of physical activity on your tours?

Accepted Answer

Our tours range from gentle sightseeing to active adventures. Most itineraries include some walking on uneven ground, optional short hikes, and getting in and out of vehicles or boats. We'll always describe the activity level honestly and can adjust experiences to suit a group's mobility and energy.

Question 9

What kind of accommodation can we expect?

Accepted Answer

We work with the best lodges, boutique hotels, and luxury properties across both countries — from waterfront city hotels to remote wilderness lodges. We match accommodation style to your group's preferences and budget, and we know the standout properties in every region.

Question 10

Will we have a dedicated guide throughout the tour?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Most of our tours include a dedicated tour director or driver-guide who travels with your group from start to finish. We also bring in specialist local guides at key destinations so you get genuine, in-depth knowledge of each region.

Question 11

What should we pack?

Accepted Answer

Layers are essential — weather in New Zealand and parts of Australia can change quickly. Comfortable walking shoes, a waterproof jacket, sun protection (the UV is strong here), and smart-casual attire for evenings cover most situations. We send a tailored packing guide with every confirmed itinerary.

Question 12

What about dietary requirements and allergies?

Accepted Answer

We accommodate all dietary needs — vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal, kosher, and allergies. Please let us know at the time of booking and we'll ensure every meal and experience is planned accordingly.

Question 13

What currency is used and are credit cards widely accepted?

Accepted Answer

New Zealand uses the New Zealand dollar (NZD) and Australia uses the Australian dollar (AUD). Credit and debit cards (especially Visa and Mastercard) are accepted almost everywhere, including in remote areas. Contactless payments are the norm. Some travelers like to carry a small amount of local cash for tipping or markets.

Question 14

Is tipping expected?

Accepted Answer

Tipping is not customary or expected in New Zealand or Australia. That said, gratuities for exceptional service from your guide, driver, or in fine-dining restaurants are always appreciated.

Question 15

Will my mobile phone work? Is there reliable Wi-Fi?

Accepted Answer

Most international phones work on local networks — check with your provider about roaming, or pick up a local SIM on arrival. Wi-Fi is available in nearly all hotels and lodges. Connectivity in remote regions like Fiordland or Australia's Outback can be limited, which is often part of the appeal.

Question 16

How safe is travel in New Zealand and Australia?

Accepted Answer

Both countries are consistently ranked among the safest in the world. Standard travel precautions apply, and our guides ensure everyone is well briefed on natural-environment safety — from sun protection to ocean conditions and wildlife.
