Nuit à bord à Doubtful Sound
Quieter and three times larger than Milford — overnight cruises offer total wilderness immersion.
About Doubtful Sound Overnight
Doubtful Sound is Milford's wilder, larger and far quieter neighbour. At 40km long it dwarfs Milford, and reaching it requires a coach, a boat across Lake Manapouri, and another coach over Wilmot Pass — making it feel a world away.
Overnight cruises drop anchor in remote arms of the fjord, where you can kayak silent waters, listen to the dawn chorus and (with luck) hear the bell of a tūī echo off the cliffs.
While You're There
What to See & Do
- 40km of pristine glacier-carved fjord
- Resident bottlenose dolphins (one of the southernmost pods on earth)
- Tāwaki / Fiordland crested penguins (winter)
- Kayaking and tender-boat exploration
- The 'sound of silence' — engines off in the wilderness
